Detectives investigating the death of a Co Tyrone teenager after a country music concert have agreed to meet his family to discuss their concerns over the initial police search.

15-year-old Matthew McCallan's body was found in a ditch yesterday.

He had gone missing in the early hours of Sunday morning after attending the event in Fintona.

Det Supt Gareth Talbot said specially trained officers were helping to support the family.

He said: "We are aware of the family’s concerns regarding the initial police response in the search for Matthew and the family have agreed to meet two senior officers to discuss.

"Due to the family’s concerns we have decided to make a notification to the Office of Police Ombudsman of Northern Ireland, for their assessment."

Police are treating the Dungannon teenager’s death as unexplained.

A post-mortem examination will be held later.

Matthew was last seen at 1.20am Sunday in the Ecclesville Centre in Fintona, the concert venue.

The spot where he was found was around 3km away.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

They said they had looked into social media speculation that he’d been last seen getting into a vehicle.

Officers said they had spoken to the occupants of the car and had eliminated them from the inquiry.
