A combination of flu and Covid-19 infections at University Hospital Galway has led to visiting restrictions on a number of wards.

As a result of the disruption caused by an influenza outbreak on one ward - and high levels of Coronavirus on four others - visits to the impacted areas are only being facilitated on an exceptional basis.

The hospital is appealing to any intending visitors to stay away from the facility, if they have respiratory symptoms.

It has warned of the risk of spreading the flu virus and the complications this can cause for those with a chronic medical condition or older people.
