Four people have been injured - one seriously - following a two car collision in Co Clare tonight.

It happened at Drumline near Newmarket-on-Fergus at 6.10pm.

Three male occupants of one car and a woman aged in her 60's, who was the driver of the second car, were all taken to University hospital Limerick.

One of the men, aged in his 20s, is described as being in a critical condition. The woman's injuries are described as not life threatening.

The R458 where the collision occurted has been closed and Gardai say it will remain closed overnight as forensic collision investigators carry out a full technical examination of the area.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the crash to contact them at Shannon Garda station.
