Revenue officers at Dublin Port and Dublin Airport have seized 320,000 cigarettes and more than 11kgs of cannabis as part of two separate routine operations.

With the assistance of detector dog Milo, officers seized cigarettes of various brands concealed in tins of powered paint arriving from Cologne, Germany.

The cigarettes have a retail value of €240,000 and equal a loss of over €188,000 to the Exchequer.

Yesterday, with the assistance of detector dog Blue, officers seized cannabis with an estimated value of almost €227,000 at Dublin Airport.

The drugs were discovered in an air cargo consignment that had arrived from Canada and was destined for an address in Dublin.

The drugs that came from Canada were described as 'hops'

Investigations are ongoing.
