A man has been arrested and a car seized in relation to last month's fatal hit-and-run in Co Cavan.

The body of a man in his 50s was found on the N3 near Billis Bridge in Ballyjamesduff just after midday on Friday 19 August.

Following a technical examination, it was determined that the man was hit by a vehicle that failed to remain at the scene.

Gardaí today located the vehicle suspected of being involved in this collision.

A man in his late 30s was arrested this evening and is currently detained at Bailieborough Garda Station, where he can be detained for a period of up to 24 hours.

Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
