The Westbound lane of the M6 between the Ballinasloe East Junction and Athlone has reopened to facilitate people travelling to the Galway races - but the Eastbound lane remains closed, gardaí said.
Westbound lanes on the M6 were closed last night following a collision involving two lorries.

The Westbound lane of the M6 between the Ballinasloe East Junction and Athlone is now reopen to facilitate traffic en route to the @Galway_Races.

It later re-opened for a time, but was closed again at around 9.30am so that the trucks could be removed by crane and the road washed.
The crash happened on the eastbound lane between Ballinasloe and Athlone, close to Junction 14, around 6pm yesterday.

One person was taken to University Hospital Galway, where he is being treated for injuries.
Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
Eastbound traffic is being diverted at Junction 14 and motorists are asked to take the R446 to Athlone, where they will re-enter the motorway at Junction 13.
