The Government bill that will provide grants of up to €420,000 to homeowners to repair defects caused by mica, has been signed into law by President Michael D Higgins.
The mica redress scheme originally covered affected houses in the west and northwest of the country but has been extended to cover Limerick and Clare.
It is estimated the scheme will cost €2.7bn.
Mica is thought to affect more than 7,000 homes, many in Donegal and Mayo.
