Bord na Móna Wagonmaster trains hauled peat around midland bogs for years.

But peat harvesting is no longer taking place and the trains - along with company tractors, tyres, specialist peat harvesting and engineering equipment - are being sold.

The diesel powered Wagonmaster trains were used to pull tonnes of peat from the bogs to fuel power stations and supply the raw material to make briquettes.

Pieces of train track used by Bord na Móna Wagonmasters are also for sale

Now that Bord na Ména has ended peat harvesting, a Wagonmaster locomotive - along with a large number of track lines - go under the hammer this Saturday in an online auction.

More than 200 lots are up for sale, including 70 tractors, teleporters, tracked excavators, trailers, tyres and many spares and other engineering items all formerly used to harvest peat.

The equipment was mostly used at the company's Derrygreenagh site in Co Offaly and purchasers will have to pick it up from there following the auction.

Several Bord na Móna tractors are also up for auction

All the lots can be viewed on the Wilsons Auctions website, which will host the auction this Saturday morning at 10am.

A number of auctions of Bord na Móna equipment from other company sites around the midlands have already taken place.
