Tributes have been paid to a motorcyclist who died following a two-vehicle collision yesterday afternoon.

The fatal crash, involving a car and motorbike, happened on the Old Armagh Road outside Monaghan town at around 4.50pm.

The deceased has been named locally as Kieran Brennan, who was in his 40s.

In a post on Facebook, the Bad Examples Motorcycling Club, said Mr Brennan - who was their Club President - had been helping with a charity collection for Ukraine in Monaghan all day yesterday.

The club described Mr Brennan as a "friend you could always depend on" and said he will be sadly missed.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene where Mr Brennan received treatment from paramedics, but was later pronounced dead.

His body was removed to the mortuary at Monaghan General Hospital where a post-mortem will take place at a later date. There were no other injuries reported.

A technical examination of the scene by Forensic Collision Investigators will take place this morning with local diversions in place.

The road where the collision occurred was closed overnight.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to come forward and for road users to share any dash cam or video footage.
