A 34-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged acid attack on a man which has left him blind in one eye.
John Paul Carey of 2 Dunmanus Crescent, Knocknaheeny in Cork City appeared before a special sitting of the district court tonight.
The machine driver is charged with assault causing harm to Francis Costelloe at 102, Connolly Road, Ballyphehane in Cork City on Friday, 4 March last, contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.
Sergeant Gearoid Davis said the State is awaiting directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions and objected to a bail application from Mr Carey's solicitor on the basis of the seriousness of the charge.
Judge John King granted bail, subject to a bond of €700 and a number of conditions.
These include that Mr Carey has no contact, direct or indirect, with any alleged injured party, their immediate family or any witnesses.
He must also stay away from the Ballyphehane and Togher areas of the city and will remain under curfew between 9pm and 6am at Dunmanus Crescent, Knocknaheeny.
The accused was also told he cannot leave this address without giving 24 hours' written notice to gardaí, who must have a current mobile phone number that he is available on.
He must also sign on at his local Garda station three times a week.
Mr Carey was released on bail with the case adjourned until 12 May next for directions from the DPP.
