A new Regional Enterprise Plan for counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon is being launched by the Government.
One of a number of such initiatives being rolled out around the country, it aims to promote innovation and drive job creation.
Speaking at the launch of the plan at the GMIT Castlebar campus this morning, the Tánaiste said it had been devised to deliver "bottom up" results across the three counties over the next two years.
He said the region was well positioned to compete for future funding and he expressed confidence that the initiative would lead to a more sustainable economy.
Leo Varadkar said it was a priority of the Government that plans such as this would reach into every town and village and bring associated benefits to them.
He said local enterprise offices in the area had helped create 3,000 new jobs last year. Mr Varadkar said he expected this trend to continue as the country emerged from the pandemic.
He also said the region was very well placed to benefit from new remote working trends.
Mr Varadkar said he wanted people to able to work remotely for the long term, whether it was from home, or at dedicated hubs across the country.
He said legislation to allow for this would be strengthened in the coming months and he hoped to have it passed by the Oireachtas before the summer.
The Tánaiste said the shift to hybrid working should become one of the positive benefits of the pandemic.
