Gardaí are appealing for information after a teenage girl was injured in an assault in north Kilkenny early this afternoon.
The incident happened near the Durrow Road outside Johnstown after midday when the 17-year-old sustained a non-life threatening injury and was brought to hospital.
It is understood she was walking on her own in the area at the time.
Gardaí say the man who assaulted the girl after approaching her at the scene is "best described, at this time, as a white male in his 40s with an Irish accent".
They have appealed to anyone who was in the area between about 11am and 12.15pm today to come forward and are looking for dash-cam footage from the scene.
A Garda search operation has been under way since the incident which happened about 1km from Johnstown, in an area known as Cullinane's Lane, near what used to be the main Dublin road from the village.
It is understood the teenager suffered a minor physical injury but has been left traumatised by what happened.
