The Road Safety Authority (RSA) is warning road users of the dangers posed by fog with dense fog forecast tonight and tomorrow morning across Leinster and Munster.

Dense fog is expected in counties including Carlow, Clare, Cork, Dublin, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford, and Wicklow from 1am to 11am.

The RSA warns that dense fog "seriously reduces your visibility and makes driving very dangerous".

It advises motorists to switch on their headlights and fog lamps, reduce their speed and keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front.

If the fog closes in, reduce your speed further and take your time getting to your destination.

Road users should listen to weather forecasts and if your journey is necessary, allow plenty of extra time for driving through fog.

The RSA is also advising vulnerable road-users such as pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists to ensure they are clearly visible to other road-users by wearing high visibility clothing and using lights.

In the event of a breakdown or collision, park a vehicle well off the road, stand well back and do not attempt to stand or walk on the road.
