A Mayo man has been named World Landscape Photographer of the Year.
Felix Sproll's image of waves crashing into the coastline at Doolin in Co Clare was selected as the winning entry, from a field of more than 6,500 photographs submitted online in recent months.
"Atlantic Winter Storm meets Ireland" was taken on a Nikon D750 camera.
Judges described it as having "power, depth and [that it] conveys tons of emotion".
The 29-year-old, from Ballinrobe, began shooting landscapes seven or eight years ago.
He said conditions were good when he travelled to the area in question to try to capture the shot last winter.
Mr Sproll said he spent about an hour taking photographs of waves battering the coast and subsequently selected what he thought was the image that best showed the force of nature.
The World Landscape Photographer competition was initially designed to be a one-off contest during the pandemic last year.
However, it had such an appeal that organisers decided to make it an annual event.
Entrants pay a £10 fee to enter, with proceeds being donated to environmental charities.
Mr Sproll says he does not normally enter competitions and had no expectation when he submitted a few entries last February.
He won a Nikon ZII as first prize, which he said was handy, "as I needed a new camera".
More than 1,400 photographers took part in this year’s competition.
