The reopening of Sceilg Mhichíl has been delayed until July due to recent poor weather and sea conditions off the southwest coast.

The island, which has grown in popularity in recent years in part as it was a filming location for the Star Wars film franchise, has been closed to visitors due to the pandemic for over a year.

Earlier this month, it was announced by the Office of Public Works the island would reopen to visitors next week on Monday, 21 June.

However, the OPW has now said that Sceilg Mhichíl, situated off the Kerry coast, is now scheduled to open to visitors on Thursday, 1 July.

"Unfortunately, due to periods of poor weather conditions hampering the progress of work on site, the reopening of Skellig Michael has now been postponed," the OPW said.
