Firefighters in Co Cork have been stood down after a fire onboard the shipwreck of the MV Alta was extinguished.
Fire tenders from Midleton and Youghal were dispatched to the abandoned vessel near Ballycotton shortly before 4pm yesterday afternoon.
There were no reports of anyone on the wreck and it is understood that the fire was burning in cabins at the bow of the vessel.
Firefighters had tackled the blaze last night but finished due to rising tide and poor light, determining that the fire was "substantially extinguished".
Gardaí monitoring the situation overnight told firefighters this morning that no issues had arisen.
Cork County Council said fire crews have now been stood down.
The ship washed up off the south coast of Ireland near Ballycotton in February of last year, having been abandoned by its owners and crew in October 2018.
