The Criminal Assets Bureau has seized cash and property with a value of more than €60,000 as part of an investigation into a county Longford criminal gang.

It is the second time in eight months the gang, which is alleged to be involved in the sale and supply of drugs, intimidation, unlicensed money lending and the extortion of monies in the Longford area, has been targeted. 

A total of six searches were carried out by CAB officers today with the assistance of the Garda Emergency Response Unit at five residential premises and at one commercial location.

Eight dogs were also seized during the operation.

Gardaí say a new VW Passat car, financial documents and electronic media documentation in relation to ownership of assets were recovered.

Financial accounts with monies in excess of €37,000 were subsequently retained by way of orders under Section 17 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing) Act 2010.
