A 44-year-old man charged with the capital murder of Detective Garda Colm Horkan is to face trial at the next session of the Central Criminal Court.
Stephen Silver, of Aughaward, Foxford, Co Mayo, was remanded in continuing custody to the Midlands Prison, Portlaoise.
Previous court sittings had heard the accused has been receiving treatment at the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum.
Mr Silver was flanked by prison officers as he was led into the court where there was a large garda presence.
Members of his family sat in the public gallery as the case was being heard.
Det Gda Horkan, who was 49 and based in Castlerea Garda Station, died on 17 June 2020 after he was shot while responding to an incident in the town.

State solicitor for Roscommon Kieran Madigan told Judge James Faughnan this morning that he served Mr Silver with the book of evidence in the presence of his solicitor shortly before the court hearing began.
He said the murder charge was being struck out and that Mr Silver was being sent forward for trial on the single charge of capital murder.
Mr Silver did not speak during the brief hearing.
