The Government has announced it is to spend €35 million to retrofit nearly 1,300 social housing units for energy efficiency, working out at a cost of €27,000 per home.
Those local authorities who can use their allocation will be given extra funding, with the Government hoping to retrofit a total of 2,400 homes this year.
Minister for Housing Darragh O'Brien said the impact of Covid-19 is being taken into account in the allocations.
"We are taking an equitable approach ensuring that allocations are calculated on the basis of the number of social housing units each local authority has, as a percentage of the overall national stock, as well as the ability of individual local authorities to complete the programme"," he said.
The government has a target of 500,000 homes to be retrofitted to a B2 BER rating by 2030, with 36,500 of these being local authority owned homes.
