A Donegal GP has issued what he describes as an "immediate stark warning" to people in Co Donegal to abide by the public health guidelines to avoid the county being escalated to Level 3 restrictions.

Dr Denis McCauley said there is a significant surge in Covid-19 cases in the county which he believes is due to complacency, not just on the part of young people, but all age groups.

Yesterday, the Department of Health reported 30 new cases of the disease in Co Donegal.

Dr McCauley said the cases are countywide and for the next couple of weeks people need to assume that everyone they see has the virus.

He said people need to restrict themselves to their own households. People are having relations over to visit he said, and this has to stop.

Dr McCauley said people need to "wise up" or there will be serious health and economic consequences for the county.
