An investigation is under way after a man was seriously assaulted with a machete in Waterford in the early hours of this morning.
The attack happened at about 3am at a house at St Herblain Park in Waterford city when two people answered the door and found a man holding a machete.
The man barged into the house and assaulted a man, who suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.
A woman in the house received a minor cut to her hand.
The injured man sustained a deep laceration to his upper left thigh and a serious cut to his knee, as well as a cut to his right thigh.
Gardaí and ambulance services attended the scene.
No arrests have been made and the scene has been preserved by gardaí, who are appealing for witnesses.
