A Letterkenny man has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run which happened in the town in the early hours of Monday morning last.
The body of 30-year-old Jason Haughey from Kilmacrennan was found on the roadway at Windyhall, Letterkenny at around 4am.
27-year-old Paul Dooher of Cuildoire, Gortlee, Letterkenny was charged with a number of offences at Falcarragh District Court, sitting in Letterkenny courthouse, today.
Detective Sergeant Michael Galvin gave evidence of the arrest, charge, and caution of Mr Dooher at 5.43pm yesterday and told the court he was charged with the alleged offences at 6.41pm.
Mr Dooher is charged with being the driver of the vehicle that failed to stop after it caused injury to Mr Haughey, driving with no insurance and without a driving licence and using a vehicle without the consent of the owner.
Sgt Galvin said gardaí had no objection to bail but sought a number of conditions including that Mr Dooher would surrender his passport, sign on at Letterkenny Garda station twice a week, provide a mobile phone number and not to interfere with witnesses in the case.
Mr Dooher was released on his own bond of €250.
Judge Paul Kelly adjourned the case until 21 September to allow for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
