Some 2.6 million passengers are expected to travel through Cork Airport this year - an increase of 8% on 2018 passenger numbers.

These figures are published as the airport has officially opened new facilities, including a new control centre, today.

Cork Airport MD Niall McCarthy said the investment in the new control centre and a management hub is vital to the airport's future growth and will ensure the efficiency, safety, and reliability of the airport into the medium term.

Funded by the DAA, the work is part of a €10m investment project at the airport over the next two years.

This has already seen an upgrade in the airport's roads and traffic management technology with improvements to the airport's security infrastructure and equipment in the pipeline.
