Around 500 people have joined a protest in Co Galway this afternoon to highlight their opposition to the impending closure of the post office in the village of Eyrecourt.
The protesters are marching a distance of 1km from Esker to Banagher bridge.
Hundreds of people involved in the protest had blocked a bridge on the Shannon and had stopped traffic.
The bridge is the only crossing between Galway and Offaly, but the protesters have now dispersed and the bridge is open to traffic.
An Post want to relocate the current postal service there to Banagher which is 11km away in Co Offaly.
Organisers say they are concerned about the impact of this on their community.
They say they have identified a business in Eyrecourt willing to take on the services of the post office, but they say that An Post have told them that this will not happen.
An Post have confirmed that the current application to maintain a service in Eyrecourt in under an independent review.
