A 21-year-old man has died in a road crash in north Cork.

The crash occurred at Knockeenacurrig East near the village of Kilkeam at around 6am.

The man, who was travelling alone, was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Cork University Hospital.

No other vehicles were involved.

The road has been closed for a technical examination and gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to contact them at Macroom Garda Station on 026 20590

Separately, gardaí have appealed for witnesses after a man in his 60s was seriously injured in a collision between a car and a van near Belturbet in Co Cavan yesterday.

The man, who was driving the van, was taken to Cavan General Hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Dublin.
