A Status Yellow rain warning is in place in eight counties, and will remain in place until later this afternoon.
Met Éireann said that heavy rain could bring localised flooding, poor visibility and difficult travelling conditions in counties Cork, Kerry, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Waterford, Wicklow and Tipperary.
From 6am, a similar warning comes into place in Northern Ireland.
The UK Met Office said that persistent and at times heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption and brief flooding of a few places.

The warning ends for Cork and Kerry at 2pm, Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford, Waterford, Wicklow and Tipperary at 5pm, while the warning for Northern Ireland ends at 9pm.
