You can imagine the excitement when a group of young boys were told they were allowed to go on the bus to the cinema without their parents for the first time.
Last week, that big post Christmas outing turned into a nightmare for 13 year old Jody Campion and his friend Senan when they were both attacked for no reason by a gang of older teenagers.
The attack was filmed and gardai are looking for anyone who has any information to contact them.
Jody's parents, Adrienne and Paul as well as his sister Kasey joined Claire Byrne Live to tell their story.
"He is a quiet kid. He is the captain of the football team and he is popular. For now he can have no screens, no television and no sports because he has a head injury." – his dad Paul
There was a huge reaction when Kasey tweeted about the incident, prompting coach John Kavanagh to offer to train the teenagers in self defense.
