Workers who buy a house in Dublin pay 13 times their incomes compared to employees in Northern Ireland who pay six times their incomes in Belfast, according to new figures from the Central Statistics Office.

The CSO said the median average house price in Dublin in 2024 was 13 times the median gross salary of employees compared to six times the gross salaries in Belfast.

In a release which examined the economies of the Republic in comparison to Northern Ireland, the CSO found that household disposable income was higher in the 26 counties than in the North.

It said that disposable income per person was 21,488, as measured by Purchasing Power Standards, in the Republic compared to 18,998 in Northern Ireland.

The measure takes account of different currencies and prices in each jurisdiction.

Northern Ireland also ranked behind other areas in the Republic with the Eastern and Midlands region at 22,264, Southern region at 21,279 and Northern and Western region at 19,721.
