New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that energy fuels jumped by 32.6% in April compared to March as the price of wholesale petrol, diesel and heating oil jumped due to the impact of the war in the Middle East.
On an annual basis, wholesale energy fuel prices soared by 42.3% in April of this year compared with the same time last year.
The CSO said that Fuel Oil soared by 50.1% in April compared to April 2025, while Gas Oil (other than autodiesel) increased by 16.9%.
The CSO noted that Fuel Oil prices are at their highest recorded value since it started this series in 2021, while Gas Oil prices are at their highest level since July 2022.
Today's figures also reveal that wholesale electricity prices rose by 1.9% in April compared with March and were 18% higher than April 2025.
Wholesale electricity prices have fallen by 66.2% when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022, the CSO added.
The CSO said that overall wholesale price inflation showed an increase in April with a 0.2% growth in the overall Producer Price Index for manufacturing industries in the month.
