5% increase in Live Register claimants in March - CSO

More people were claiming some form of job seekers' benefit during March, according to the CSO

There was a 5% increase in the number of people on the Live Register in March, according to the Central Statistics Office.

Just over 168,000 people were claiming some form of jobseekers' benefit in the month - up 8,206 year-on-year.

According to the CSO, 56.3% of claimants in the month were male.

People aged 25-34 years old made up the largest age cohort, representing almost 24% of claimants.

Just over 70% of people on the Live Register were Irish, with 11% from elsewhere in the European Union and 3% registered as United Kingdom nationals.

Just under 15% had their nationality listed as "other".

Dublin had the biggest percentage increase in Live Register claimants year-on-year, up 10.3% on March 2025.

Claims in Kildare rose by 7%, while Monaghan saw the biggest decrease with a 4.7% decline in claimants.

Meanwhile the CSO said that 115,119 - or 68.5% of claimants - had been on the Live Register for less than a year. However this figure was up 10.8% percent on March 2025.
