Waterford Whisky Distillery is to be acquired by US spirit-maker Tennessee Distilling Group.
The deal includes the distillery, which is based at the site of a former Guinness brewery, the company's brand portfolio and its associated intellectual property.
A price was not disclosed, however it is understood to have sold for around €6m.
The deal is set to complete in the coming weeks "following regulatory requirements", with TDG planning to invest "significantly" in the distillery and grow the team working there.
Waterford Whisky launched its first product in 2020 - promising a vineyard-style focus on terroir - but its growth was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, while it also faced challenges in the key US market.
In late 2024, Mark Degnan and Daryll McKenna of Interpath Advisory were appointed as receivers of the brand after it failed to raise fresh funding.
Attempts to find a buyer for the brand were frustrated by uncertainty around Irish whiskey exports to the US in the face of tariffs, however a buyer has now been secured.
Tennessee Distilling Group is a major producer of bourbon and American whisky. It specialises in contract manufacturing - where it produces spirits for other companies' brands.
