AA Ireland's latest monthly fuel price survey shows a notable increase in both diesel and petrol prices during March, with diesel experiencing the largest jump.

AA Ireland said that diesel prices rose to €1.90 per litre on average in March, up 18 cents from €1.72 in February.

Petrol prices increased to €1.81 per litre on average in March, a rise of eight cents from €1.73 in February.

EV charging costs remain unchanged compared to last month, AA Ireland added.

These are, however, average prices, and the cost of diesel has been reported at between €2 and €2.20 per litre at some locations this week.

An AA Ireland spokesperson said that motorists are seeing a significant increase in fuel prices this month, particularly for diesel, which has jumped considerably since February.

It noted that pump prices remain closely linked to fluctuations in global oil markets, geopolitical events such as the recent escalation of conflict in the Middle East, and currency exchange rates.

"As a result, prices can change quickly and may vary significantly depending on location and fuel retailer," it added.

An AA spokesperson said that with fuel prices climbing again this month, it is more important than ever for motorists to shop around where possible.

"We've heard from our members that prices at the pumps are moving above and below €2 per litre on a daily basis. Even a difference of a few cents per litre can add up over time," they added.
