Profits at Wineport Lodge increase by 36% to €761,031

Post tax profits at the firm that operates the four-star Wineport Lodge Hotel located on the shores of Lough Ree in Co Westmeath last year increased by 36% to €761,031.

The business is owned by husband and wife team Ray Byrne and Jane English, and new accounts for Wineport Lodge Ltd show that the post tax profits of €761,031 last year follow post tax profits of €559,636 in 2024.

The profits of the last two years follow post profits of €1.05m recorded in 2023 and post tax profits of €196,066 in 2022.

In 1993, the couple set up a small restaurant at Portaneena between the villages of Ballykeeran and Glasson and the business has grown steadily over the years to be a luxury lakeside boutique hotel which today also includes a spa and wellness centre.

For a number of years the restaurant at the hotel was the setting for TV show The Restaurant which was broadcast on RTE for a number of years.

The new accounts show that the post tax profits of €761,031 for last year resulted in the company having accumulated profits of €5m at the end of 2025.

The post tax profit last year takes account of non-cash depreciation costs of €221,818 and interest costs of €97,632.

The company's cash funds decreased from €676,916 to €653,214.

The couple last year continued to invest in the business with the value of tangible assets increasing from €7.78m to €8.35m.

Numbers employed at the business last year decreased from 47 to 46 made up of 44 in general and two in administration.

Pay to the two directors last year remained at the same level at €400,000. Ms English and Mr Byrne own the business on a 50/50 basis.

The amount owed to Ms English by the company decreased from €144,503 to €66,244 in 2025.

Profits at Connacht Hotel hit 1.65m in 2024

Separate accounts lodged by another independently owned hotel company, which operates the Connacht Hotel on the outskirts of Galway City, show that its pre-tax profits increased almost four fold to €1.65m in 2024.

The main activity of the company was the operation of a hotel, restaurant and licensed premises together with leisure facilities.

The hotel firm recorded the increase in profits as revenues increased marginally from €18.72m to €18.97m.

A breakdown of revenues show that the main contributors were accommodation at €12.04m, food at €3.7m and beverage at €1.9m. The leisure club contributed €970,373 to revenues.

The directors last year paid out of a dividend of €3.99m.

Numbers employed by the business in 2024 remained at 232 as staff costs rose from €6.6m to €6.73m.

Pay to directors totalled €355,002.

The profits for 2024 took account of non-cash depreciation costs of €777,374.
