Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Simon Harris has appointed a new member to the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council.
Dr Oana Peia was appointed from a panel of shortlisted candidates set up after an open selection process by Public Jobs towards the end of last year.
Her appointment fills a pre-existing vacancy when outgoing Council member Professor Michael McMahon's term of office came to an end at the end of December.
Dr Peia is an Assistant Professor of Economics at UCD, specialising in macro-finance and financial stability.
She has previously collaborated with the Central Bank here, the European Central Bank and the Bundesbank on research into non-bank finance and credit supply. She has also conducted research on sovereign debt, bond markets and fiscal policy.
Dr Peia is also a founding executive committee member of the Irish Society for Women in Economics, and a regular contributor to media and policy discussions on the Irish and European economies.
