Annual wholesale electricity prices down 24% in January - CSO

Wholesale electricity prices have fallen by 67.2% when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022, the CSO said today.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that wholesale electricity prices rose by 17.1% in January compared with December but were 24.2% lower than in January 2025.

The CSO noted that wholesale electricity prices have fallen by 67.2% when compared with the peak that occurred in August 2022.

Today's CSO figures also show that producer prices for food products declined by 0.2% since December 2025 and fell by 2.3% in the year since January 2025.

Some of the most notable changes in producer prices for food products over the 12 months to January were for Fish & Fish Products, which rose by 5.4%, while Vegetables & Animal Oils & Fats dropped by 16.2% and Other Food Products fell by 6%.

Overall wholesale price inflation showed an increase in January with a 1.4% growth in the overall Producer Price Index for manufacturing industries in the month, the CSO said.
