Gas Networks Ireland has appointed David Kelly as its new chief executive.
David Kelly is currently the Director of Customer and Business Development in Gas Networks Ireland with over 20 years of executive-level experience in the private and public sectors.
Mr Kelly joined Ervia as Group Head of Operations and Public Affairs in 2015 before taking up his current role in 2022.
He is also currently the Vice President of Dublin Chamber of Commerce and will be appointed President on February 26.
Gas Networks Ireland operates and maintains the country's €3 billion, 14,725km national gas network.
Gas Networks Ireland Chairperson Kevin Toland said that Mr Kelly is a transformational leader with strong customer, stakeholder and leadership skills.
He said Mr Kelly has played a key role in defining and executing the strategy to help Gas Networks Ireland transform its business in accelerating the company's, and Ireland's, journey to Net Zero.
David Kelly said he was delighted to be taking up the role of CEO at this "exciting" time in the Gas Networks Ireland transformation.
"By replacing natural gas with renewable gases, such as biomethane and green hydrogen, Gas Networks Ireland is working to deliver a net-zero carbon gas network and to reduce emissions across several key sectors, including those that are traditionally difficult to decarbonise, like transport, agriculture, industry, and power generation," he said.
"In addition, the continued focus on security of energy supply to Ireland is critical across the organisation and ensuring a safe, reliable, secure network through the energy transition is of utmost importance," he added.
