The chairman of Iarnród Éireann Steve Murphy is stepping down, with the new chair announced by Minister for Transport Darragh O'Brien.
Ultan Courtney is appointed for a period of one year while a recruitment process is carried out.
Steve Murphy served as the chair of Irish Rail for just under two years.
Announcing the appointment, the minister said that "Mr Courtney brings a wide range of experience, skills and expertise to his role" with "a strong track record in management and delivering on wider Government policy objectives"
Minister O’Brien thanked the outgoing chairperson for his work on the board of Iarnród Éireann over the past three years.
