Monthly consumer prices down estimated 1% in January

Consumer prices in Ireland fell by 1% between December and January, according to a flash estimate from the EU Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP).

The figures estimate energy prices fell by 0.8% in the month and that they are up by 0.3% in the year to January.

Meanwhile, food prices are estimated to have risen by 0.2% in the last month, and increased by 3.9% in the last 12 months.

Across all categories for the last year, the HICP estimates inflation in Ireland rose by 2.6%.

Final confirmed figures for consumer prices for January will be published on 19 February by the Central Statistics Office.
