New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for December 2025 was 172,200 people, up by 3,000 people from the previous month.

The 25-34 years age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in the last month of last year at 41,317 people or 24% of the total.

The CSO also noted that there were there were 119,559 people on the Live Register for less than one year, which was 11,108 more people (10.2%) than in December 2024.

They also reveal the counties that recorded the largest percentage increases in the number of people on the Live Register in 2025 were Dublin, with an increase of 11%, and Limerick (up by 7.6%.

Donegal and Monaghan saw the largest decreases - of 3.3% and 2.3% respectively.

The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment as it includes part-time workers as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance.

Figures earlier this week from the CSO showed that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 5% in December 2025 and up from 4.5% in December 2024.
