CIÉ Group appoints Stephen Kent as new CEO

Stephen Kent has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of the CIÉ Group.

The new CEO succeeds Lorcan O'Connor, who has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

The CIÉ Group, which is Ireland’s largest public transport provider, operates Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann and Iarnród Éireann, as well as Rosslare Europort.

The company said Mr Kent has been appointed for a seven-year term, following an extensive and competitive recruitment process.

Most recently, he served as CEO of Bus Éireann from 2018 to 2025.

He previously worked with Waterford Crystal and C&C Group, before joining Bus Éireann as Chief Commercial Officer in 2013.

The Chair of the CIÉ Group Board, Aidan Murphy, said Stephen Kent "contributed significantly to the CIÉ Group during his time in Bus Éireann."

"I know he will will use that experience and his undoubted skill set to advance the ambitious plans in the CIÉ Group and the public transport sector more broadly."

The new CIÉ Group CEO said he is "delighted to join and lead CIÉ at such an exciting period of growth for public transport in Ireland."

Stephen Kent said: "Further enhancing the integration and delivery of services through collaboration will be critical as demand for sustainable mobility increases.

He said the new CIÉ Strategic Plan will be "very citizen focused, and we will progress positive initiatives on climate action and sustainability, property asset development, and shared service synergies, ensuring we generate the necessary financial resilience to accelerate investment and innovation to help grow public transport across the country."

Mr Kent also said he looks forward to working with the CIÉ Group Board and team "to contribute to growing public transport usage."

He takes up the new role from today.
