An Coimisiún Toghcháin, the Electoral Commission, is partnering with the Stripe Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition to promote election and democracy awareness among young people.

The expo runs from 7 January to 10 January at Dublin's RDS.

An Coimisiún Toghcháin will have a stand at the event running a mock election for people's favourite invention and encouraging everyone eligible to register or pre-register to vote.

Young people can pre-register when they're 16 and 17 years old and then they will be automatically added to the register once they turn 18.

An Coimisiún will also present the inaugural Democracy and Elections Award at the exhibition.

"The inaugural Democracy and Elections Award recognise and celebrates the most creative and impactful thinking on democratic engagement, electoral participation, integrity and infrastructure," said Art O’Leary, Chief Executive of An Coimisiún Toghcháin.

"It reflects our commitment to nurturing innovation and research on elections and democracy at every stage of education, and it builds on the positive momentum created by the introduction of Politics and Society to the curriculum in recent years," said Mr O’Leary said.

The Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition showcases projects from secondary school students in the areas of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

In May 2025, financial technology company Stripe was announced as the title sponsor of the event, taking over from BT.

The expo attracts over 40,000 visitors making it one of the biggest events of its kind both in Europe and worldwide.

The winners of the contest advance to participate in prestigious international events such as the European Union Contest for Young Scientists.
