There has been a 29.4% increase in planning permissions granted in July, August and September compared to the same period last year.

It is the highest number of approvals since the fourth quarter of 2023, according to the Central Statistics Office.

The latest data from the CSO will be viewed as a positive indicator for the future supply of housing.

The number of apartments approved was up 51.2% from 3,318 to 5,016 while the number of house approvals increased 15.7% from 5,293 to 6,126.

The CSO warns that figures from one quarter to the next "can vary significantly" if several large developments are approved at the same time.
