New figures from Penneys show that everyday essentials made up half of all items sold in its stores across the country this year.
Penneys said that 2,000 packs of socks were sold every hour, while more than 1,000 basic T-shirts and vests were also sold every hour in its 38 stores nationwide. Nearly 5,000 bras were also sold each day.
The retailer also noted that denim had a strong comeback on the global fashion stage during the year, with denim sales up 16% year on year, on the back of the popularity of new styles such as barrel and wide-leg jeans.
Customers bought over 2,000 pairs of jeans every day on average, Penneys noted.
As colder weather arrived, the week of November 24 became Penneys' busiest of the year so far, with Saturday November 29 recorded as the single busiest shopping day.
In August, Penneys said that Electric Picnic sparked a rush for last-minute festival essentials, with thermals up 108%, ladies' boots up 130%, and fluffy socks up 80% compared to the previous week.
Major cultural events also lifted footfall and the retailer said that during the Oasis weekend at Croke Park, Penneys' O'Connell Street and Mary Street stores saw strong spikes in shoppers as concertgoers passed through the city centre.
Next week - the week of December 15 - is set to be Penneys' busiest week of this year, with over one million customers expected to shop across its 38 stores nationwide.
Saturday December 21 is forecast to be the busiest shopping day of the year, with customers expected to be out in force grabbing last minute Christmas gifts, festive partywear and comfy essentials.
Fintan Costello, Head of Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland, said that 2025 was a busy year for the retailer, which trades as Primark outside of Ireland.
"As we're now in the big run-up to Christmas, we're expecting busy stores as customers seek out the best value in gifting, nightwear, partywear and home décor for the festive season," he added.
