Ryanair said it will close its annual subscription service from today following an eight-month trial period.
The airline said that all existing 55,000 Prime members will continue to get monthly low fare offers until October 2026, but no new members will be allowed to sign up after today.
Ryanair CMO Dara Brady said the airline had signed up over 55,000 Prime members, generating over €4.4m in subscription fees.
But he said the Prime members received over €6m in fare discounts, so this trial has cost more money than it generates.
"This level of memberships, or subscription revenue does not justify the time and effort it takes to launch monthly exclusive Prime seat sales for our 55,000 Prime members," he said.
"We are grateful to our 55,000 Prime members who signed up to this Prime trial over the last eight months, and they can rest assured that they will continue to enjoy exclusive flight and seat savings for the remainder of their 12-month membership," he added.
Ryanair had announced the launch of the annual subscription service that gives members reserved seating, insurance and access to monthly seat sales for €79 a year in March.
The airline had said it would initially limit membership of the Prime service to 250,000, which it said would make it €19.75m a year if fully subscribed.
