Tourism numbers up by 4% in October - CSO

New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that 568,900 foreign visitors completed a trip to Ireland in October, an increase of 4% compared to the same month in 2024.

But the number of overseas visitors in the 10 months to October fell by 6.4% to just over 5.4 million, the CSO noted.

Today's figures show that the average length of stay for visitors was 7.1 nights in October, the same as October 2024 and up from 6.9 nights in October 2023.

Visitors stayed a total of 4 million nights in the country in October, up 4% on the same time last year.

The typical foreign visitor spent €1,228 (€929 excluding fares) on their trip to Ireland in October. This broke down as €299 on their fare, €34 on prepayments, €417 on accommodation and €478 on day-to-day expenses.

The comparable mean expenditure on these items in October last year was €337, €45, €441 and €489, respectively.

The CSO said that in total, visitors spent €529m on their trips (excluding fares), a decrease of 1% on October last year, but up 3% compared with October 2023.

Visitors from North America accounted for €202m (38%) of this spend, while visitors from Continental Europe made up €181m (34%) of expenditure and Great Britain accounted for €102m (19%).

The CSO said the most frequent reason for the visitors' trips was for holiday or leisure (41%), while 33% of trips were to visit friends or relatives.
