SIPTU has suspended a 12-hour strike that was due to commence at Carroll’s Cuisine in Tullamore, County Offaly, tomorrow morning.

The union said it follows agreement from management to enter negotiations with SIPTU representatives next week.

The talks will focus on securing a collective agreement on pay and conditions for workers.

SIPTU has around 100 members at the plant, which produces cooked meats and ready meals.

The dispute relates to pay and union recognition and has seen workers engage in three days of strike action.

"While the suspension of the stoppage acknowledges management’s new willingness to engage with our union, the dispute is not settled," said SIPTU Manufacturing Divisional Organiser, Neil McGowan.

"We will enter the negotiations in a positive manner with a clear focus on improving pay and terms and conditions for our members, we have come too far not see a fair agreement," Mr McGowan said.

Sofina Foods, the parent company of Carroll’s Cuisine, has been contacted for comment.

In a previous statement, the company said it remained fully committed to addressing the concerns raised, including those related to pay and working conditions.
