The Bar of Ireland's Employment Bar Association (EBA) will hold its annual conference today focussing on justice in the workplace.

One of the topics up for discussion will be the dismissal of large numbers of officials across multiple federal agencies in the US under the Trump Administration.

Delegates will hear that any of these removals breached long-standing legal protections designed to preserve agency independence.

These developments, the conference will be told, present warning signs for industrial relations in Ireland when constitutional checks are weakened.

Other issues that will be explored include the future of the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) and the unpredictability of employment injunctions.

"Today’s programme demonstrates the breadth of issues now facing this area," said MP Guinness BL, Chair of the Employment Bar Association.

"The role of the EBA is to provide a space for rigorous, expert-driven discussion to guide the evolution of Ireland’s employment law framework and ensure it remains fair, independent, and resilient", she added.
