Planned industrial action by members of the Irish Airline Pilots' Association (IALPA) employed by ASL Airlines Ireland has been postponed.

Pilots had voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action in the airline, up to and including strike action, in a dispute over union recognition.

ASL Airlines Ireland operates freight services on behalf of major global companies including Amazon, FedEx and DHL.

IALPA had accused ASL of refusing to engage with the union to negotiate a collective labour agreement for its pilots.

IALPA said today that ASL has requested a meeting to engage with the union next week.

"In good faith, IALPA has decided to postpone issuing formal notice of industrial action to allow for meaningful negotiations next week in an effort to reach agreement on union recognition and a commitment to negotiate a collective labour agreement with IALPA for ASL pilots," the union said.

IALPA Vice President Daniel Langan added that IALPA is looking forward to engaging with ASL.

"The company’s request to meet next week is a positive step that is welcomed by our members, and we are looking forward to meaningful engagement that will establish a union-negotiated collective labour agreement," Mr Langan said.
