SIPTU members employed at Carroll's Cuisine in Tullamore, Co Offaly, are to take strike action later this month in a dispute over pay and union recognition.

SIPTU has around 100 members at the plant, which produces cooked meats and ready meals.

The workers will commence a campaign of industrial action with two 12-hour work stoppages on Sunday 16 November and Monday 17 November, both commencing at 7am.

Pickets will be placed at the entrances to the plant during these stoppages.

SIPTU has accused management of withdrawing from talks concerning pay and conditions.

"Workers in Carroll’s Cuisine voted last month in favour of industrial and strike action but suspended planned action to allow for talks," said SIPTU Manufacturing Divisional Organiser Neil McGowan.

"Union representatives met with management on Friday 31 October.

"At this meeting SIPTU representatives outlined a proposal based on ensuring financial stability at the company but also including pay improvements for workers and union recognition for the purposes of collective bargaining.

"Management asked for time to consider this proposal. Earlier this week, management informed the union that it would not be prepared to engage any further on the outstanding matters," Mr McGowan said.

Carroll’s Cuisine has been contacted for comment.
