New figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for September stood at 169,300 people, a marginal increase of 100 people from August.

The CSO said the unadjusted Live Register total stood at 165,243 people for September, of which 55.8% were men.

Today's figures show that the 25-34 years age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register in September at 39,838 people or 24.1% of the total.

The CSO also said the counties that recorded the largest percentage increases in the number of people on the Live Register Dublin (+9.6%) and Kildare (+5.6%).

The biggest decreases were in Galway (-6.1%) and Monaghan (-5.7%), the CSO added.

The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment as it includes part-time workers as well as seasonal and casual workers who are entitled to Jobseeker's Benefit or Jobseeker's Allowance.

Figures earlier this week from the CSO showed that the country's unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.7% in September from a month earlier.
